Mike joined the Firm in 2013, having previously worked in the employment taxes teams at three other global professional services firms.
Mike has extensive experience across a broad range of payroll and employment tax matters. Amongst other areas, Mike advises clients in relation to employment tax risk & governance, Senior Accounting Officer certification, the employment status of workers, termination payments, the tax/NIC treatment of employees’ expenses and benefits, international assignees and business travellers, and salary sacrifice arrangements.
Twice previously Mike has been seconded to the Tax teams of large multinational employers, on each occasion managing the client’s response to wide-ranging HMRC reviews. His time spent working within these businesses has afforded him an in-depth understanding of the practical challenges faced by employers in meeting their UK tax compliance obligations.
Mike is an active member of the CBI’s Employment Tax Working Group and has led KPMG’s response to many of the recent HMRC consultations on Employment Tax matters, including termination payments, salary sacrifice and IR35 reform. He regularly writes and presents on a wide range of UK tax issues, including Know Your Customer reviews, SAO certification, Real Time Information, Short Term Business Visitors and termination payments.
