Jane Collins

Assistant Manager

KPMG in the UK

Jane has over 10 years of international work experience within Government, the private sector and academia relevant to life science regulations. As an Enforcement Team Leader within the UK Government department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) Jane led a regulatory authority team responsible implementation of the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) under the Convention on Biological Diversity. This position provided valuable insight into the delivery and implementation of international and national legislation relevant to the pharmaceutical sector. The role involved close collaboration with organisations across the pharmaceutical industry to raise awareness of ABS regulations and to support and guide compliance with the complicated legislation. With a keen interest in marine biodiscovery, Jane completed a PhD in 2020 involving research into policy options for an Implementing Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea for the ‘Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biodiversity in Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction’ (BBNJ). She has represented the UK at United Nations conferences, operating as subject matter expert on marine genetic resources providing advice on workable options for a potential new ABS mechanism.
