Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity (IDE), the KPMG way
- Inclusion is about belonging: creating a safe environment built on trust where we can be who we are and feel valued for our unique contributions and perspectives.
- Diversity is about difference: embracing and respecting our differences and the unique experiences, cultures, identities, and perspectives that we can all bring to KPMG.
- Equality is about access to opportunity: challenging systemic barriers and biases and helping to create a level playing field for everyone to succeed and thrive at KPMG.
Following these IDE principles in the workplace involves understanding individual differences and creating an equal opportunity culture that benefits employees and the organisation as a whole.
Why IDE principles are important to KPMG
Valuing inclusion, diversity, and equity is essential for any company that wants to attract and retain the best talent and following these principles strengthens our capacity to offer clients holistic solutions, exemplified by the S (social) pillar of KPMG’s ESG commitments.
Our goal is to create a safe and comfortable working environment for our people, helping them to maximise their capabilities and realise collective and individual potential. We are convinced that what makes us different makes us stronger, and that our commitment to IDE produces better results.
The following values help foster an inclusive workplace and contribute to achieving KPMG’s IDE goals:
- promoting a barrier-free environment for people with disabilities
- achieving gender balance, supporting women's leadership, and breaking down gender stereotypes
- supporting employees in their right to express a diversity of sexual orientations and gender identities.
KPMG in Ukraine is committed to developing an inclusive culture and promoting an unbiased approach within our company. We strive to ensure that all employees, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, marital status, etc., have equal access to professional development opportunities and salary advancement within their grade and role.
What are the benefits of commitment to IDE principles?
- Attracting qualified specialists without bias or prejudice, being attentive to their needs, respecting everyone’s contribution to joint projects, and developing personal and collective capabilities helps KPMG to improve its position on the labour market.
- Encouraging creativity and generating fresh ideas by creating conditions for effective collaboration between people with different points of view, as well as diverse cultural and educational backgrounds improves the quality the services we provide to our clients.
- Our commitment to creating an equal, unbiased, and favourable environment for employment and professional growth for every individual reflects our investment in the well-being of the community in which we live and work.
- Putting our faith in IDE principles ensures committed employees feel their contributions are valued, helping to reduce costs associated with staff turnover, pre-empt labour disputes, and prevent absenteeism.
- Being able to better understand employees’ needs means that we can foster a safe and secure work environment that motivates our employees to be productive and enhances company loyalty.
Barrier-free working environment for people with disabilities
One of KPMG’s main goals is to promote a barrier-free environment for people with disabilities, both within the company and across Ukraine as a whole.
At the national level, our experts analyse how countries in Europe and the US approach disability inclusion, synthesising their methods with unique local needs to propose new regional and global approaches to employing people with disabilities, especially those relevant to a Ukrainian context.
At the company level, we strive to put those approaches into practice. Our main focus is on barrier-free access to professional self-realisation and growth, training programmes, logistics, and networking.
KPMG in Ukraine maintains a strong focus on equal employment opportunities for people with disabilities, paying careful attention to promoting tolerance and acceptance within our company to ensure that we provide necessary and relevant support to all our employees.
Gender balance and support for women's leadership
Since 2021, women at KPMG in Ukraine have consistently represented 33% of directors and partners (67% men, accordingly).
This stable percentage is achieved through balanced transfers and promotions within the KPMG in Ukraine’s management team (with internal growth between Director and Partner grade employees).
Financial compensation for executive positions should be the same, regardless of gender; with only minor differences arising related through qualification level or other objective factors related to merit.
The overall average male/female employee balance in the company as a whole is 60/40.
While we are proud to have such a strong female representation in leadership roles, we do not plan to rest on our laurels.
We believe that a culture promoting equality and diversity enables more effective decision-making, as well as fostering greater development, creativity, and innovation; meaning that we can better meet the needs of today's world and be a motivating factor for positive change.
In 2021, KPMG in Ukraine launched a special media project entitled Breaking Glass Ceilings, promoting women's leadership and shattering stereotypes in our society. The project embodies KPMG in Ukraine’s sincere commitment to support women in their efforts to develop their professional potential without restrictions and obstacles, enjoying equal rights and opportunities for career growth.
Project guests openly share the secrets of their success; talk about their career path, habits, and rituals that help them stay on target; encourage participants to develop and improve relevant skills; and, most importantly, each heroine shares her experience and best advice on how to break through the glass ceiling.
LGBTQ+ integration
KPMG's global network is committed to supporting colleagues in their right to diversity in sexual orientation and gender identity, reflected in our desire to create a safe and inclusive working environment that is free from harassment, intimidation, bullying, and discrimination.
Furthermore, the whole KPMG network is committed to promoting LGBTQ+ awareness in the workplace to reassure employees that they will be safe, their contributions will be recognised, and their voices will be heard as part of an inclusive family of colleagues.
KPMG in Ukraine supports this global commitment and continues to direct its efforts to implement an inclusive corporate culture, enhance tolerance, and create a safe working environment regardless of employees’ sexual orientation or gender identity.
