Digtial passport check

The Swedish Migration Agency’s e-service has been expanded, allowing citizens from additional countries to digitally verify their passports in migration cases. Previously, citizens from countries such as India and China had to travel to the nearest embassy handling migration matters to have their passports verified. Now, the process has become significantly easier.

To be able to verify passports, the physical passport must be an e-passport. An e-passport has the following symbol, which makes it easy to identify:

KPMG expects that this will have a positive impact on processing times, as more people will be able to verify their passports digitally. This can now be done without visiting an embassy, which sometimes requires traveling to another country.
