From 18 to 21 May, Aktau will host KPMG Open, an international wheelchair tennis tournament held as part of the ITF Wheelchair Tennis Tour. The competition will bring together professional athletes from multiple countries, reinforcing Kazakhstan’s position as a key hub for inclusive sports initiatives in Central Asia.

KPMG Open will be held for the second consecutive year. The tournament was first held in Astana in 2025 and became the first international wheelchair tennis competition of this level in Central Asia.

Players from Japan, Thailand, France, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, and other countries will take to the courts in Aktau. The lineup includes athletes ranked in the top 100 of the world rankings, ensuring a high level of competition and exciting matches.

For Kazakhstani athletes, the tournament represents an important opportunity to build on previous success. At the first KPMG Open, Aizhan Butimbayeva made history by becoming the first player from Kazakhstan to reach the finals of an ITF Futures wheelchair tennis tournament in women’s doubles, while Dinmukhamed Aliyakparov and Dastan Niyazov advanced to the doubles quarterfinals.

Hosting KPMG Open in Aktau allows the tournament to reach a new level and provides athletes in Kazakhstan with additional experience of high level international competition. The participation of players ranked in the world’s top 100 demonstrates the region’s readiness to host sports initiatives of global scale.
