      Our client is a private sector financial institution that supports banks through refinancing and pre-financing of mortgage portfolios. With a strong commitment to expanding its green financial capacity, the institution is seeking a highly qualified and experienced professional to lead its sustainability and climate finance agenda.

      Position Summary

      The Head of Sustainability, Climate Finance, Strategy and Communications will be responsible for developing, leading, and managing all ESG strategic and communication initiatives. The role holder will design, implement, and evaluate the sustainability roadmap and its ecosystem, ensuring alignment with the institution’s long-term strategic vision.

      Key roles and responsibilities

      • Develop, manage and implement ESG strategies, goals, policies, frameworks, sustainability roadmaps and resource allocation for the institution and its ecosystem, ensuring alignment with the strategic vision, values and goals.
      • ▪ Lead the development and periodic review of the institution’s ESG strategic roadmap, ensuring integration with overall corporate strategy and alignment with evolving global sustainability standards and stakeholder expectations.
      • ▪ Conduct comprehensive ESG assessments, including the monitoring and evaluation of ESG goals, impacts and compliance with global reporting standards, to identify key sustainability risks, opportunities, and performance indicators for the institution and its ecosystem.
      • ▪ Support the management team in understanding sustainable development issues by implementing a capacity-building plan, ensuring the institution not only meets but exceeds ESG goals, and integrating ESG practices across business functions.
      • ▪ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate ESG practices across various business functions, including credit, operations, human resources, and finance.
      • ▪ In collaboration with HR and Risk Management, implement a capacity-building plan for the staff as well as procedures and control tools - both internally and within the ecosystem – for compliance with social and environmental standards, as well as with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.
      • ▪ In collaboration with the Chief Operations Officer, ensure beneficiary partner banks comply with the standards and recommendations set by the Bank of Tanzania and other regulators concerning sustainable development.
      • ▪ Design and implement the communication & dissemination component of the company's sustainable development strategy, including the Corporate Social Responsibility Report.
      • Collaborate with the CEO to represent the organization at international climate and environmental events, stay updated on emerging ESG trends, and actively contribute to the organization’s communication forums. 
      • Develop and implement a corporate communications and media strategy aligned with the company’s strategic direction, ensuring collaboration with the executive team to support key business initiatives through effective media engagement. 
      •  Proactively address all ESG-related inquiries, support the executive team in decision-making, and manage communication with internal and external stakeholders. Ensure timely media reporting, press releases, and website updates with relevant ESG information. 
      •  Develop and present ESG reports to Executive Management and the Board, including report on communication initiatives. 
      • Maintain daily engagement with the Green Climate Fund, other UN climate and environment finance institutions and private investors. 
      •  Demonstrate a strong understanding of the legal and technical framework of the Paris Climate Agreement.

      Academic/Professional qualifications and Experience:

      • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in business, management or related field from a recognized university. 
      •  A master’s degree in finance / specialization in climate finance, science or engineering would be an added value. 
      • Experience in the legal and technical framework of the Paris Climate Agreement will be an added advantage. 

      Experience:

      • A minimum of 8 to 10 years relevant work experience in strategic planning; climate finance and sustainability projects; corporate communications; climate and development financing by multilateral and bilateral financial institutions; financial structuring; project finance; and consulting. 
      •  A minimum of 5 years relevant work experience at a Senior/Supervisory level.
