Preparation of implementation

The key to a successful system implementation is efficient and thorough advance planning. KPMG’s approach is tailored to clients’ needs since all businesses have different characteristics and challenges. Reviewing business processes is an important step of the preparations. This is aimed at avoiding to transfer fixed and less optimal processes to the new system, but developing efficient and new value-creating processes instead. Our experts help our clients define, formalise and finalise business processes.

We participate in project planning, defining the extent of the full program/project which will ensure the ERP project is implemented at the right pace and within budget. Defining the roles, tasks and operating order within the project is essential for achieving the goals.

System and supplier selection, quality assurance

KPMG integrates IT project advisory methodologies with its extensive ERP experience allowing it to support its clients in selecting the right ERP system. We assist in defining and collecting the functional and non-functional requirements (system architecture, IT security, integration options, supplier capability analysis, warranty options, support service analysis, etc.) involving all the areas affected since they may have different needs. We consolidate needs and finalise them after validation by the client.

After all this, we help clients find potential suppliers who will be able to deliver the desired system. We develop a scoring and weighting system for the selection criteria based on the previously accepted requirements, helping our partner make the final decision more easily. Additionally, we provide assistance in issuing tenders as well as during negotiations with suppliers, where outstanding issues may be resolved.

System implementation of SAP, Microsoft and Oracle solutions

We help our clients in navigating the stages of ERP system implementation, starting from configuration to testing and training. Integrating the architecture and processes of the selected ERP solution into the client’s existing system environment forms part of KPMG’s system implementation services. Our experts will install and configure the selected ERP software as previously defined.

We provide assistance in testing and providing training on the system to ensure it complies with the requirements, function specifications, reporting requirements and that the necessary interfaces are available for the existing systems.

ERP system support (SAP, Microsoft, Oracle)

In the context of ERP support, KPMG will perform regular technical and legal compliance tasks in the client’s SAP, Microsoft and Oracle system. Based on defined service level agreements we investigate and rectify the system errors indicated by our clients. In the context of our support service we implement new needs that arise during operation. Aligned with the life cycle of the system, we perform upgrades changes according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Our support tasks include professional advisory services for our clients as well as regular system assessments and inspections.

BPR before or after implementation

Companies that fail to rethink their business processes prior to implementing ERP systems are more likely to incorporate IT solutions behind incorrect legacy processes. KPMG provides BPR services before and after the implementation, which significantly increases our clients’ competitiveness and operational efficiency.

For a company to be competitive it needs to focus on value-creating processes, service differentiation as well as on the speed and flexibility of service provision. We help our clients assess the maturity of processes before and after implementation, as well as define the tailored uniform operating model which will be built around standard business practices and models. KPMG provides a solution for integrating these business processes in the case of both legacy and newly implemented ERP systems.

Systemic support in IFRS adoption

Implementing IFRS will become mandatory for numerous companies based on either legal or group requirements.

KPMG’s services allow for the identification of necessary points of change based on the new accounting standards and rules, and then help companies prepare for the necessary interventions affecting their IT systems. We provide assistance in incorporating the new standards into IT systems, including the necessary infrastructure and architecture elements. We do so by reviewing current IT applications and their architecture, identifying and analysing change requirements, and planning the scheduling and migration processes.

Transitioning to IFRS may imply changes in the company’s data warehouse solution as well as its bookkeeping and reporting systems. After the assessment, a decision can be made on how to perform the transition: with changes, new parameters or even adopting a new system. We prepare specifications after the decision. We can even help with selecting the right supplier, and in certain systems we can perform these changes ourselves.
