For calendar-year taxpayers, the deadline for submitting the global minimum tax registration form is 2 March 2026. To assist you in preparing for this requirement, we have summarized the key information below.
For the 2025 financial year, all Hungarian Constituent Entities (CEs) are required to register, including those that registered for the 2024 financial year and those that first became subject to the GloBE rules for tax years beginning on or after 1 January 2025.
It is important to emphasize that the registration obligation applies regardless of whether the group member will actually have any top-up tax payment obligation in Hungary for 2025.
Constituent Entities can either submit the registration individually or appoint a Designated Local Entity to handle the process. The designation is not subject to any formal requirements.
Although the registration form is not yet available, the Ministerial decree on the detailed notification requirements already defines the data set to be reported. This scope is slightly more extensive than in the prior year and includes the following:
- UPE identification data (name, tax number, EU VAT number, country of residence)
- Hungarian CE identification data
- identification data of the Constituent Entity/Entities or designated local entity/entities responsible for fulfilling the following GloBE-related obligations:
- filing and payment of the QDMTT and its advance
- submission of the GloBE Information Return
- filing and payment of IIR and UTPR-related taxes
- Identification data of domestic Joint Ventures and domestic Joint Venture Groups (if applicable)
It should be emphasized that failure to comply with the registration obligation, including late submission of the registration form, may result in a penalty of up to HUF 5,000,000 (approximately EUR 13,000).
Another risk of penalty arises from the fact that unregistered CEs will be unable to submit advance tax returns or tax returns for the 2025 financial year.
Our consultants are available to assist you with the preparation and submission of the registration form and will notify you as soon as information on the timing of the form’s release and any other relevant data becomes available.
