Due to low equity or a lack of collateral, many companies find it difficult to obtain loans from banks. With public guarantees, the federal and state governments can make it easier for these companies to take out a loan. The guarantees can be customised to suit different business needs in order to provide companies with the best possible support.

The state of Brandenburg provides guarantees to collateralise loans for initial or replacement investments, for the procurement of working capital and for guarantees. Only eligible and economically viable projects for which other collateral is not available to the required extent are supported. The project financed by the guaranteed loan must be carried out in Brandenburg.

According to 4.1 of the guarantee guidelines of the State of Brandenburg, commercial enterprises and other commercial organisations as well as members of the liberal professions who maintain at least one permanent establishment in the State of Brandenburg are eligible to apply. In addition, according to 4.2, persons who participate in a company in which they are or will be active in a managerial capacity through the state-guaranteed loan are eligible to apply. Institutions in which local authorities hold stakes or voting rights of more than 50 per cent are not eligible to apply.

The guarantee application must be submitted to KPMG before work begins on the project to be financed. The application is submitted together with the house bank.

KPMG handles the processing of the applications as well as the administration and processing of the guarantee.
