In addition to all ongoing tax issues, we support our clients in the preparation of tax returns and external tax audits as well as in proceedings. Among other things, we focus on issues relating to the taxation of investments at insurer level and the tax accounting effects of insurance-specific provisions.

Our range of services also includes advice on tax implications in connection with special issues such as corporate reorganisations or regulatory transactions (e.g. portfolio transfers, formation of captives).

In the area of indirect taxes, advice on insurance tax issues plays an important role alongside VAT optimisation. We advise on the insurance tax assessment of products, insurance tax compliance and also offer competent support in this respect in the context of tax audits.

In addition to the tax and regulatory assessment of insurance and pension products, we are your contact for all tax matters relating to company pension schemes and products.

Focus topics of our consulting services

International tax consulting and transfer pricing

For insurers with activities abroad, we offer direct access to the global FS KPMG network of advisors, our global expertise and the latest developments in international taxation.

We follow legislation, case law and opinion developments in the relevant jurisdictions as well as developments within the EU and keep our clients up to date with the latest tax news and solutions from international competence centres and national tax offices.

In addition to taking on all tax activities, e.g. for branches, our services also include tax advice for international restructurings, withholding tax issues and international tax compliance.

We support our clients in the planning and implementation of a sustainable transfer pricing system as well as in tax audits and communication. We have the necessary experience to develop our clients' transfer pricing systems, implement them operationally, document them regularly and successfully defend them in tax audits worldwide.

      Tax compliance management consulting

Increased requirements for transparency and documentation, increasing digitalisation as well as stricter legal framework conditions and more restrictive handling by the tax authorities are having an increasing impact on the tax function. For example, even comparatively minor errors in tax declarations can lead to the initiation of criminal or administrative offence proceedings. In order to counter this adequately, insurers should take a closer look at their tax function and examine the extent to which their tax processes and governance structure need to be adapted.

We provide support in this area with customised solutions such as maturity assessments, implementation support and PS 980 audits.

      Digitalisation of the control function

Digitalisation is also having an ever greater impact on the tax departments of insurance companies.

On the one hand, processes are increasingly being digitalised, especially at the interface to the customer; this also brings changes for the tax function (e.g. with regard to the correct tax structure and assessment of these processes). On the other hand, global initiatives (e.g. BEPS) are also increasing the demands placed on the tax function by national and foreign tax authorities. With the help of new digital technologies, there are opportunities to respond to these new requirements.

We offer comprehensive consulting services to improve the quality and efficiency of the tax function. We achieve this through a combination of tax expertise, professional process consulting and forward-looking technologies.
