The reconstruction of Ukraine is a question of international solidarity and is also seen as a strategic concern by the German Federal Government - for example with regard to peace, stability and economic prospects in Europe (see Federal Foreign Office, Ukraine Recovery Conference 2023). The German government is specifically focussing on cooperation with the private sector in order to promote sustainable economic structures in Ukraine. German companies play a key role in this - be it through investment, cooperation or the development of new business models.

Support measures by the German government

To make it easier to get started, the German government provides targeted funding:

  • Investment guarantees for German companies
  • Export subsidies for trade and business development
  • Special financing programmes for projects in Ukraine

Close coordination with public institutions such as the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) and organisations such as Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI) creates reliable framework conditions for companies that want to get involved in Ukraine.

Why is it worth getting involved now?

In addition to the economic stabilisation of Ukraine, reconstruction opens up long-term opportunities for German companies. Especially in the following areas:

  • Infrastructure (e.g. roads, bridges, energy supply)
  • Energy (renewable energies, grid expansion)
  • Technology & digitalisation
  • Industrial production & mechanical engineering

There is attractive potential here - supported by German funding instruments and bilateral economic initiatives.
