Today, companies are strictly aligning their cloud strategies with goals such as agility, digital sovereignty and cost control. The Cloud Monitor 2025 is based on a survey of 509 German companies with at least 50 employees and provides reliable insights into strategic alignment and operational implementation.
Focus of the report
- Public cloud becomes the target platform
42 per cent of companies already use public cloud services predominantly or exclusively. By 2028, 65 per cent of public cloud users plan to run more than half of their productive applications there.
- Multi-cloud and sovereignty as a strategic response
In order to avoid dependencies, most companies are focussing on multi-cloud concepts. At the same time, the importance of sovereign cloud offerings is increasing: 58 per cent see them as a "must-have".
- FinOps is becoming a competitive factor
The cloud is losing its role as a pure cost reducer: Only 61 per cent of companies still report significant savings (2024: 67 per cent). Strategic FinOps management is becoming crucial in order to control costs and benefits transparently and optimise them in the long term.
- A holistic approach to security
Only 26 per cent of companies believe they are well prepared for the implementation of the EU Network and Information Security Directive NIS2. At the same time, 60 per cent rely on security monitoring and 58 per cent on incident response exercises. Zero trust concepts are establishing themselves as the new normal.
- AI unfolds its potential in the cloud
96 per cent of cloud-using companies obtain modern AI solutions from cloud providers. Only 13 per cent still use traditional data centres for AI - a decrease of 13 percentage points compared to the previous year.
