In today's dynamic business world, support functions must go beyond pure cost reduction and actively contribute to value creation. A deep understanding of business value streams and the flexibility to adapt to new requirements are essential. According to our global KPMG survey, 84 per cent of the top executives surveyed believe that managing value streams in the company leads to cost savings.

The most important findings at a glance:

  • Utilising the full potential of data is another key factor. By integrating and analysing data, companies can gain valuable insights that contribute to the optimisation of business processes and better decision-making. Nevertheless, only 10 percent of respondents rate the digital maturity of their organisation as high.
  • The introduction of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is fundamentally revolutionising support functions. 66 per cent of employees expect technology to increase their productivity in the next three years. This requires a rethink of business processes and an understanding of the impact of these technologies on employees' role profiles and skills.
  • Effective management of the value contribution is also crucial. Only 45 per cent of managers believe that targets are aligned across all functions within the company. KPI-driven management and a corresponding incentive system are therefore essential in order to achieve the overarching corporate goals.
  • In light of these challenges, 36% of respondents plan to fundamentally reorganise their corporate services to realise the full value of support functions and drive digital transformation.
These findings are based on the KPMG study "Future of Corporate Services", which emphasises the need to recognise support functions as an untapped superpower and to future-proof them through strategic measures.
