With over 40 years of experience, Robert is a GTA Trade & Customs Leader at KPMG in Canada’s Greater Toronto Area (GTA) Trade & Customs practice. With respect to his experience in the trade area, Robert’s practice includes advising clients on: trade solutions, trade agreements, duty drawbacks and refunds, remission of duties and taxes, tax compliance, and liaisons with government officials on behalf of clients with respect to options in tariff relief programs, audit issues, and litigation support.
Robert is a licensed customs broker and professional logistician with in-depth knowledge of trade agreements and customs process. He is skilled at managing a diverse range of professionals who deal with all aspects of customs and trade. Robert is regarded as a high-energy problem solver with a strong reputation for helping large multinational businesses reduce import and export costs and manage compliance risk.
Robert brings over 31 years of public practice experience having launched and led a specialized Customs & Trade group in another firm. He has worked on behalf of government departments, protecting the interests of Canadians, and has led large multinational consulting activities to help companies effectively navigate these territories to realize savings through imports and exports.
At the start of his career, Robert spent nine years working in various senior positions for the Customs Division of Revenue Canada (now the CBSA). The area of specialty with Customs was focused on duty relief programs that assisted exporters compete in foreign markets by refunding Canadian duties on manufacturing inputs.
