Carla Hannemann is a Partner of M&A Tax Services at KPMG in Canada and KPMG Law LLP. Her practice encompasses all aspects of income taxation that arise in corporate and commercial transactions, including cross-border mergers, corporate reorganizations, domestic and international debt financing, debt restructuring and private equity investments. Carla has significant experience working with many major Canadian and international pension plans and pension investment boards, and regularly advises Canadian and US private equity funds on their acquisitions, reorganization, and divestitures of investments in Canada. Additionally, Carla leverages her business degree and corporate management experience to provide practical, straightforward advice on tax issues, as well as providing tax advice with respect to executive compensation and other aspects of the day-to-day business of her clients and their portfolio investments.
As the founder and organizer of Canadian Tax Foundation Women in Tax Mentorship events, Carla has been recognized for her expertise in 2019, receiving the Lexpert Zenith Award and Lawyer’s Monthly Women in Tax Award. In 2018 she received the KPMG Canada Tax Mentoring Award and is the founder of KPMG’s Skills GTA Youth Initiatives Committee.
