David Brownridge is the National Power, Utilities and Renewables Lead for Audit and Accounting Advisory at KPMG Canada, and serves as the GTA Energy Sustainability Assurance Leader. With over 18 years of experience, David specializes in providing external assurance and accounting advisory services to the Power, Utilities and Renewables industry.
He is recognized for his expertise in rate-regulated accounting and his deep understanding of both US GAAP and IFRS, is leading KPMG Canada's implementation team for the proposed standard IFRS 20, Regulatory Assets and Regulatory Liabilities, helping entities across Canada navigate the impacts of regulatory changes on complex transactions.
He is a trusted advisor on ESG reporting, governance, and assurance for the energy sector, with experience in limited assurance engagements over ESG metrics, sustainability-linked loans, and green bond allocation reports.
He has prepared jurisdictional studies and reports for rate applications, including analysis of capitalization thresholds and nuclear liability cost recovery methodologies across 11 countries.
David provides regular updates and annual training on accounting and regulatory matters to Canadian utilities and industry associations.
