Richard is an associate at KPMG Law (Canada) whose practice focuses on trusts and estates and corporate law. He advises individuals, families, and privately owned businesses on estate and succession planning, estate administration, and closely related corporate matters, with a practical focus on aligning legal structures with personal, family, and business objectives.

Richard works directly with clients to develop estate plans that address both personal and commercial considerations. His work commonly includes the use of spousal and family trusts, planning for intergenerational wealth transfers, and implementing corporate structure changes that support succession and tax planning for business owners. He is regularly involved in matters where estate planning intersects with share ownership, control, and long term business continuity.

In his estates practice, Richard supports personal representatives through the administration of estates in Canada. He assists with grant applications (including probate and grants of administration), guides representatives through their fiduciary obligations, and helps manage the orderly collection, administration, and distribution of estate assets. He approaches estate administration with sensitivity and clarity, recognizing the legal and personal challenges that often arise following a death.

Richard also advises on a range of corporate law matters, including incorporations, reorganizations, estate freezes, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, family trust structures, and shareholder agreements. He works closely with business owners at each stage of the business lifecycle from formation and growth through succession planning or a future sale.

Across his practice, Richard is valued for his hands on involvement, technical grounding, and ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, workable solutions for clients operating in both personal and commercial contexts.
