“In Belgium, tax teams are rarely large,” says Wim Steppé, Director of Technology & AI for Tax at KPMG in Belgium. “But those few people do oversee the entire organization’s international tax landscape. That’s a challenge. Especially since the introduction of complex new requirements like OECD Pillar 2, which requires larger companies to pay a minimum of 15 percent tax globally. Calculations often require hundreds of data points from various systems and countries.”
Lorena Canterini, Senior Manager of Technology & AI, sees the same pattern among many clients. “The big picture is lost and deadlines are at risk. Who is responsible for what? What is the status in each country? How can I make optimal use of technology and AI to meet tax obligations? These questions often remain unanswered.”
