Zaventem, 20 December 2023 – KPMG in Belgium grew 12,7% for financial year 2023, with a total turnover of 287 million euros. Thanks to continued investments in people, ESG and innovation, it maintains its position as the country’s fastest-growing Big Four firm for the third year in a row.

Thanks to the firm’s continued commitment to invest in our people in FY23, we set two records in the history of KPMG in Belgium. Our workforce surpassed the mark of 2000 colleagues and an impressive 450 people were promoted in this year’s promotion cycle. We proudly welcomed 500 new hires and saw the partner group grow to a total of 83 this year. These significant milestones showcase the ongoing growth and success of our organization.

Harry Van Donink, CEO of KPMG in Belgium:

“We are very proud of our achievements this year. Like many, we faced challenges due to inflation, the war for talent, and the unstable geopolitical environment, amplified by the uncertainty of the economic landscape. I take pride in the resilience and even successes of our firm and people during these turbulent times. Our continued strong commitment helps clients find their way and even thrive in this unpredictable and ever-more complex world. It remains our mission to be the most trusted professional services firm and deliver the highest quality to our clients. Above all, we remain dedicated to our ambition of doing the work that matters for the communities we live and work in, through our ESG commitments and beyond."

KPMG’s people strategy: supporting learning, promoting well-being and harnessing diversity

Our people are central to the firm’s success and growth. We continue to work on providing an appealing and rewarding working environment, with continuous growth opportunities along the way. The firm is proud to have been certified as a Top Employer in Belgium for the 17th year in a row.

We keep investing in the professional and personal growth of our people. We are proud of our culture of continuous learning on a large variety of topics, with learning opportunities available on a self-paced base and tailored to our people’s needs and ambitions.

KPMG in Belgium's people numbers

The well-being of our people is of paramount importance as well. Next to all our existing support initiatives, we further improved our Together@KPMG program. Over the past months, over 500 people took a Human Energy Scan, and over 170 people participated in one of the four tailored programs to improve the way they manage stress, sleep, nutrition and exercise. Additionally, more than 340 colleagues joined our corporate sports events.

As noted in Our Impact Plan, we remain dedicated to putting Inclusion, Diversity and Equity at the heart of what we do. We’re nearing a full gender balance at the firm, with a 46,4% women and 53,6% men balance for FY23. To tackle the challenge of increasing the number of women in leadership positions, we introduced a female leadership program.

Our workforce of 2000+ people is rich in diversity, counting an impressive 57 different nationalities, represented by our International Community. In addition to the other existing Community of Young Professionals, we launched the Parents, Gender and BePride Communities. They help us to better represent the diversity that enriches our firm and tackle the unique challenges they face at work through events, activities, and experience sharing. We keep working towards a highly inclusive workplace where everyone feels welcome and safe.

ESG at the heart of our organization

The impact of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues is clearer than ever. Therefore we’re proud to have earned a silver rating for EcoVadis, the global standard for business sustainability ratings. The rating validates and helps demonstrate our commitment to sustainability as a firm.

In our efforts to become a net-zero organization, FY23 marked a drastic transformation to make our fleet greener: 330 electric vehicles are currently in use and 450 more (and counting) have been ordered. Simultaneously, our mobility policy continues to go beyond the car. We encourage alternative mobility solutions for commuting and introduced the Belgian mobility budget, all available in function of our people’s individual needs.

Next to our internal sustainability efforts, KPMG recognizes that we can make the most impact through our sustainability service, by supporting and guiding organizations throughout their Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) journeys. By advising our clients in their ESG transformations, we want to help accelerate change across a variety of business sectors, to benefit society.

In addition to having a positive impact through our professional services, we want to give our people the opportunity to create more prosperity for the wider KPMG community via their own projects and initiatives. This year marked the launch of our KPMG Foundation, a body that helps us structure and streamline volunteering work and provides the time and budget for projects that are close to our people’s hearts. This year, 150 people spent 790 hours volunteering for 12 big projects.

Looking forward, we can proudly announce that we are going to plant our own KPMG forest in January 2024. Investing in our own forest rather than doing just a one-off planting action, we demonstrate our long-term dedication to our planet and our people.
