Brussels, 1 June 2021. Building on past successful collaboration and further enhancing our sustainability services offering, KPMG Belgium joins forces with iPropeller, a Belgian B Corp certified sustainability consultancy. Former iPropeller Managing Partner, Michael Wagemans, joins KPMG as Head of Sustainability Services in Belgium and calls on business leaders to adopt a sustainability mindset that looks beyond short-term financial results and takes into consideration the interests of a wider community of stakeholders.
“The challenge for companies in the coming years lies in how well they succeed in effectively engaging critical stakeholders on their journey to sustainability. Successfully transitioning to a sustainable business requires both top-down and bottom-up engagement, with reliable systems in place to measure ESG performance,” says Michael Wagemans.
In his role as the new Head of Sustainability Services at KPMG in Belgium, Michael will be responsible for further developing our multidisciplinary sustainability practice within KPMG in Belgium, offering our clients holistic sustainability solutions, supporting and guiding them throughout their ESG journey. In addition, he will also be responsible for the roll-out and the follow-up of KPMG Belgium’s internal sustainability strategy.
KPMG Belgium and iPropeller’s combined capabilities provide businesses with access to a unique set of expertise that look beyond short-term financial results, focusing on long-term performance that takes into account the interests of a wider community of stakeholders. Both companies have embedded sustainable business practices in their core values and overall strategy, and by working together, aim to deliver value to society while helping companies deliver on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and reach their full growth potential. Now, businesses can count on a tailored approach to navigating the complexities of their sustainability journeys; ultimately helping them achieve a more purpose-driven way of doing business.
“By joining forces with iPropeller, KPMG shows our commitment to leading and supporting the adoption of high-performing ESG practices. By combining the knowledge and experience of our two firms, we can amplify our impact and offer organizations across Belgium the very best of business and sustainability expertise, to help boost ESG contributions and accelerate the strategic and technical transitions needed to support the realization of the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030” says Harry Van Donink, CEO of KPMG in Belgium.
With initiatives such as the European Green Deal and the United Nation’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which contains the core 17 SDGs, businesses need to step up and assume responsibility by making sustainability a core pillar of their organization’s operations. In doing so, businesses will attain greater overall value and realize superior financial performance.
There is sufficient evidence to demonstrate that sustainability, when done properly, generates efficiencies, enhances brand value and accelerates growth and innovation. The sustainability transition is a major business transformation and requires committed and capable leaders at the helm to drive change and inspire perspective. The time to act is now.
