On Thursday, 15 January 2026, we held our annual financial reporting, tax, and regulatory update webinar for board members in Belgium.
 

Silvie Broekx, Tax Partner at KPMG Belgium, presented a corporate tax update, including:

  • New Belgian legislation, including the investment deduction regime, capital gains on financial assets, and new and upcoming changes related to VAT;
  • Initiatives at European level, including EU direct tax policy, beneficial ownership, and Pillar 2; and
  • EU Green Deal and related topics, including EU Emissions Trading System (ETS2) and CBAM.

 

Frederic Poesen, Audit Partner at KPMG Belgium, and the partner in charge of KPMG’s IFRS Institute in Belgium, presented a financial reporting update in which he discussed:

  • Newly effective and forthcoming requirements in IFRS, including Lack of Exchangeability (Amendments to IAS 21), Amendments to the Classification and Measurement of Financial Instruments (Amendments to IFRS 9 and IFRS 7), Annual Improvements to IFRS Accounting Standards (Amendments to IFRS 1, IFRS 7, IFRS 9, IFRS 10, and IAS 7),  Contracts Referencing Nature-dependent Electricity (Amendments to IFRS 9 and IFRS 7), Amendments to IFRS 18, IFRS 19 and IAS 21, and changes to status in hyperinflationary economics compared to 2024; and
  • ESMA enforcement priorities, including financial reporting (geopolitical risks and uncertainties, segment reporting, and IFSR 18 readiness) and sustainability reporting (monitor legislative developments, materiality considerations, and scope and structure).

 

Emmanuel Leroux, Senior Counsel at KPMG Law, presented a regulatory update, covering:

  • NIS2 – status, scope, and supervision: conformity assessment;
  • Pay transparency – what is the Pay Transparency Directive, obligations, and procedural aspects;
  • Reform of Civil Code – status and highlights; and
  • Liability for defective products – what is the Product Safety Regulation vs. what is the Product Liability Directive and the need for action.
