Transformation of ERP platform into an enabler of growth

Melbourne Airport, which services about 31 million passengers a year, is preparing for even more. Due to projected increases in travellers, airlines, exports, and imports, the Australian airport has embarked on a far-reaching growth strategy, including the construction of a third runway, expansion of the international terminal, and other capital works.

However, achieving such ambitious goals requires more than physical capacity. It also demands a technology environment that is agile, resilient, and continually evolving to meet changing operational needs.

      What was needed

      • Improved operational resilience through data integration
      • Improved, responsive functionality to meet the growing needs of the business
      • Increased adoption throughout the organization to reduce tech debt and create a foundation for growth
      • Smooth onboarding functionality for the suppliers constructing the third runway and other facilities
      • Ability to flex and scale to accommodate ambitious growth plans

      What we did

Melbourne Airport required a partner who could maintain, transform and enhance their Microsoft-based CRM and Finance & Operations systems. Implementation of a centralised and efficient ERP that could provide simpler access to the APAM systems and support structure for their stakeholders was necessary.

To meet the fast-changing needs of the business, KPMG replaced Melbourne Airport's legacy back-office systems with a modern software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform built on Microsoft Dynamics 365. The airport is also working with KPMG Australia’s Managed Services team to get the most value from this platform, using strategic SaaS management to turn it into a growth enabler.

      What we delivered

        • ongoing enhancements, software updates and configurations,
        • training, and process improvements to support the growth strategy

      • Continually improve operational resilience to:

      • Respond to changing business requirements by:
        • embedding D365 throughout the organisation to create business efficiencies

        • improve incident management
