Dr Andy Symington

Director, KPMG Banarra

KPMG Australia

As KPMG Banarra's practice lead on just transition and the social impacts of renewable energy, Dr Andy Symington is a consultant and specialist in business and human rights and Indigenous rights, particularly in the mining and renewable energy sector, with in-depth understanding of renewable energy supply chains and corporate sustainability. He co-leads KPMG's global Just Transition working group and participation in the Alliance for Just Energy Transformation.

Andy’s client work deals with the social dimensions of corporate sustainability, especially relating to Indigenous human rights, human rights risks in the energy transition, and community-focused social risks in the mining and resources sectors, core themes of his PhD research. In that project, he spent 5 years researching, conducting fieldwork and investigating human rights in the dynamics between mining companies, government and Indigenous communities in the extraction of transition minerals in South America.
