In a nutshell, what does your business group/service line do?

The Banarra service line specialises in identifying, evaluating and improving the social impacts of organisations. Our purpose is to drive corporate responsibility. We assist with managing social and human rights risks in the operating context. This can involve many functions such as the ethical sourcing of materials and labour in the supply chain. We also plan and evaluate community investment and development programs as well as advise on stakeholder engagement in relation to all these issues.

There is a real diversity of educational backgrounds within our team – everything from social research to international business to law to environmental science. Everyone in the team is dedicated and passionate. We all support each other when it’s needed.

What does the average day look like?

An average day with Banarra will involve a combination of internal team meetings and client meetings. A lot of your work will be reporting and updating people on the progress of various programs and initiatives. Workshop preparation and delivery is a big part of this. And you’ll be helping the team in these areas. Through this, you’ll come to understand the various tools and methodologies we use to assist clients in understanding their social impact.

What will I learn in the first year?

We’ve always been quite hands-on and like to have everyone on the team involved. This level of involvement provides key opportunities for learning through the delivery of our projects. The first year you’ll be exposed to the full suite of KPMG methodologies that we apply to create results for our clients. As a team member, you’ll be involved in a range of different client meetings, workshops and presentations. Most of these are focused of social impact, human rights and sustainable supply chain and you’ll really grow your expertise in these areas.

What’s the best part of the role?

The best part of working with Banarra is having the opportunity assist major businesses in understanding and managing their human rights impacts – here in Australia as well as internationally. And being part of a great team.
