Before the interview
- Gather all the available information on the company. Sources include reports, a company’s website, news, brochures, etc.;
- Confirm the date, time and place of the interview;
- Check the address, how you will get there and how long it takes to get there;
- Check the name and title of your interviewer;
- Print and review your CV carefully;
- Assess yourself, identifying your strengths and areas for improvement;
- Think of questions you can ask, as well as potential answers to the interviewer’s questions;
- Take care of your appearance and first impression. Dress discreetly and formally;
- Arrive earlier and acquaint yourself with the place;
- Always remember to turn off your phone.
During the interview
- Greet the interviewer with a firm handshake;
- Be natural, clear and empathetic when speaking;
- Respond to what is actually asked;
- Be enthusiastic and motivated about the job and the company;
- Keep a positive attitude towards your current/former employer.
After the interview
- Write a summary of what was discussed in the interview. This will be invaluable information if you get a second interview;
- Send a thank-you email to your interviewer, thanking for his/her time and reinforcing your interest in the job.
