KPMG Zambia visits the Lilayi Elephant Nursey
KPMG Zambia join a school visit to the Lilayi Elephant Nursery as part of their 2016 sponsorship program.
This year, the Zambia office of the global professional services firm have sponsored visits from local schools in Lusaka to the Lilayi Elephant Nursery (Game Rangers International, Elephant Orphanage Project) as part of their 2016 corporate social responsibility program.
On Monday 26 September a team from the KPMG Zambia office, led by Audit Partner Maaya Chipwayambokoma and Manager Nicole Jackson joined one of these schools visits to learn more about what their support is achieving for wildlife conservation and education in Zambia.
Pupils from the Munkolo Primary School of Lusaka travelled to the Lilayi Elephant Nursery, where they met the KPMG Zambia group. Together the school children and adults participated in a lesson conducted by education officer, Kelvin Chanda about the importance of Primates in Zambia, as part of the annual conservation education curriculum supported by the GRI Education program.
The children presented a short poem about elephants to the KPMG Zambia group and the GRI team presented a small knitted pangolin as a gesture of thanks. Together the group then enjoyed a viewing of feeding time for the four orphaned elephants being rehabilitated by the GRI Elephant Orphanage Project. These elephants are victims of human elephant conflict and poaching in Zambia which have been rescued in partnership with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife and will ultimately be released into Kafue National Park, Zambia.
