In today’s digital world it very important that everybody keeps up with technology and digitalisation or they will be left behind. This applies even more so to the visually impaired in order to empower them to be autonomous in today’s world. As part of its CSR initiatives, KPMG partnered with the Global Rainbow Foundation (GRF) and Bookshare to launch a training workshop for the digital inclusion of persons with disabilities.

This innovative project, which included digital inclusion training of both trainers and visually impaired persons, enabled the participants to learn how to use various apps on their smart phones to ‘Be their eyes’.

The use of apps such as Be My Eyes, Tap Tap, Color Detector Eye-D Pro, Go Read, and many more were taught. By using these apps, the visually impaired can read books, identify their location or colors... Some 80 persons benefited from this training.

The session was led by Mrs Zainab Chinikamwalla, Membership Head of Bookshare (Asia and Africa), In addition to the training, KPMG also sponsored the donation of smart phones to the participants.

The official launch of the training was done on Thursday 19 July 2018 at Voila Hotel at Bagatelle, Moka in the presence of Prof Armoogum Parsuramen, President of GRF, Mrs Aarthi Burtony, Vice President of GRF, Mrs Su Lin Ong, Director of KPMG in Mauritius and Mrs Zeinab Chinikamwalla, Membership Head of Bookshare (Asia and Africa).
