Our people define who we are as an organisation. They inspire trust, deliver impact and drive our growth.
What is your KPMG story?
I joined KPMG in 2017 and currently form part of the Banking and Asset Management cluster’s management team within the Audit department. These past years have been a fulfilling journey of continuous learning and growth whilst servicing interesting clients and working with great teams both locally and in other KPMG offices.
I am also a Soprano and love classical music. So when not auditing, I take part in music events mainly as a Concert Soloist and as part of Opera Choirs.
What is your favourite thing about working at KPMG?
My favourite thing is that the drive for excellence and quality is also matched with valuing and respecting the individual. KPMG is a place where a person is challenged and can grow professionally whilst also feeling part of something with a purpose.
What has the pandemic taught you - personally and professionally?
I came to realise that the pandemic can leave varying and different impact on people. Thus, I continuously learn how important it is to be empathetic towards others. I think it is also very important to exercise this attribute and the ability to change and adapt within our teams and on a professional level.
What is your KPMG story?
At KPMG, I have been given the opportunity to develop and grow from a summer student joining for the first experience in the field of taxation to a role that at the time was beyond my aspirations. With a culture of knowledge sharing and an evident open door policy at the very top leadership levels, KPMG has given me all the support, technical expertise and exposure to grow and invest in my career. Most importantly, KPMG has always presented its employees with the opportunity to set out a career path that goes beyond just getting the experience you need to move on to the next job, but rather a firm where your career aspirations can be fulfilled and even exceeded.
What is your favourite thing about working at KPMG?
My clear favourite would be The People…. I owe my amazing journey at KPMG to all my colleagues who have made this an incredible learning experience which is also FUN! It does feel like my colleagues are my second family.
What has the pandemic taught you - personally and professionally?
On a professional note, I have been amazed by our ability to adapt to working from home and that trusting our people can achieve incredible results. I also feel that the element of a team at KPMG is now more important than ever and has proved to be a robust pillar that keeps us together in challenging times.
On a personal note, I have come to appreciate life more while becoming increasingly grateful for all the little things we have and are able to do in what used to be our ‘normal’.
What is your KPMG story?
I joined KPMG on a full-time basis during July 2008 as an Assistant Advisor within the Tax Department. I now hold the position of Associate Director with KPMG's Domestic Incentives Team. In 2017 I was given the opportunity to work on a reduced and flexible hours basis, thus enabling to achieve a better work-life balance following the birth of my son, Matteo. Initially the prospect of raising my son and working was overwhelming. I was worried about not being available for my family, about my career progression and about my work-life balance and how I would separate the two. However, the flexibility offered by KPMG has made the transition much less stressful, allowing me to enjoy motherhood and my family whilst continuing to progress in my career.
Throughout my employment at KPMG I always felt empowered and found the support I need to reach my goals. KPMG's support to working mothers was also evident throughout the past year and a half since the pandemic hit. During the past scholastic year my son was on a week in, week out rotation at school. During this time I was never pressured to return to work from the office but was given the opportunity to continue working remotely thus enabling me to take care of my son whilst also attending to my work commitments.
What is your favourite thing about working at KPMG?
Obviously apart from the flexibility mentioned above, what I love about KPMG is the sense of belonging, respect and being valued and rewarded for my contribution. Also I get to work with exceptional people on a daily basis who have over the years become close friends and from whom I have learned a lot both professionally and personally.
What has the pandemic taught you - personally and professionally?
From a personal aspect, the pandemic has taught me to slow down, not take things for granted and to enjoy even the little things in life like being able to meet up and spend time with family and friends.
From a professional aspect, I have learned the importance of building and investing in lasting relationships across the work environment both with colleagues and with clients. I believe that such strong relationships and also commitment by my team and firm to quickly adapt to the changes brought about by the pandemic, allowed us to continue moving forward in these challenging times.
What is your KPMG story?
I joined KPMG in 2015 in my fifth year studying law at the University of Malta. Initially, I worked part-time while also doing prattika at a law firm in Valletta, and subsequently joined the team on a full-time basis as an Assistant Advisor. In 2017, I set off on an unforgettable journey in Leiden, in the Netherlands, to study international tax law with the full support of my colleagues and seniors. I am now an Associate Director within the International Tax Advisory team, forming part of a fast-paced, multicultural and supportive team.
What is your favourite thing about working at KPMG?
One of my absolute favourite things is that I get to work with different professionals, hailing from different backgrounds, who together form one of the most varied, intelligent, and value-driven teams I could have ever hoped to form part of. At KPMG, everyone is valued and appreciated as a unique link to the chain, that is the team. In fact, as a lawyer within a team predominantly made up of accountants, I always felt that this is a space where I can learn and challenge myself while simultaneously contributing value.
What has the pandemic taught you - personally and professionally?
Professionally it has taught me how valuable our relationships with colleagues are, and how this was undoubtedly one of the building blocks that enabled us to work seamlessly from home. Personally the pandemic has taught me to be more appreciative, to invest in myself, and to work hard for whatever it is that I want to achieve.
What is your KPMG story?
I joined KPMG back in 2018 and I am currently a Software Developer within the Internal Software Team. While this field is traditionally dominated by males, I’m glad to see that gradually more and more women are taking the leap and going for a career in tech. It’s an exciting field where you practically learn something new every day as we’re faced with different challenges on a daily basis, which ultimately makes it a very rewarding career.
In pre-COVID times, being a Gozitan, I used to travel from Gozo to KPMG offices in Malta almost every day. I really appreciated the fact that I was allowed to work flexible hours and continue working from home if necessary, which made my journey much smoother and stress-free.
What is your favourite thing about working at KPMG?
The people! I form part of such a wonderful team and my colleagues are always ready to help and offer support. I also highly value the fact that the firm allows flexible working, thus facilitating a healthy work-life balance.
What has the pandemic taught you - personally and professionally?
Before the pandemic, it never occurred to me that working from home would enable me to be so productive. I now also have much more time on my hands since I don’t have to travel from Gozo to Malta every day. I believe that as long as we continue delivering quality work and set clear boundaries between work and home, where we work doesn’t make much difference. Some argue that the downside of working remotely is the lack of communication with colleagues, but this wasn’t really an issue in my case as I still managed to catch up with the people I work closely with on a daily basis.
What is your KPMG story?
I am originally from Brazil and I have been with KPMG Malta for over 3 years now. For years, I wanted to move to a safe place where the weather was great and I could enjoy the beach and summer. Malta surely seemed like the perfect fit!
I had no job offer when I first arrived so as soon as I found out that KPMG were hiring, I knew I had to apply. And it was indeed one of the best decisions in my professional life. Right after my first interview, I immediately felt that KPMG was the right place for me. I am thankful for all the support I received throughout the whole process of obtaining my VISA.
Upon meeting the Automation Team, they made me feel at home and everyone was so welcoming and kind. It’s great that this feeling hasn’t changed since.
What is your favourite thing about working at KPMG?
Without a doubt, it is the culture of collaboration and trust. Since day one, I felt like I could reach out to anyone – both colleagues and leaders - and that I would be heard. Whenever I needed support, be it work-related and not, I knew I could count on my team.
What has the pandemic taught you - personally and professionally?
I have realised that we can be more resilient than we sometimes believe we can. I have always been a very active and outgoing person and I would have never imagined myself to be able to not meet people, not go out… for over a year. However, I have managed and actually became a bit of a homebody too.
Professionally, I realised how important it is to have a strong team culture and collaboration. Despite not seeing each other every day, I am proud that we have remained ever more connected and I still feel that sense of belonging within the team.
What is your KPMG story?
Being part of the People team within KPMG Malta is a great opportunity to work with a big network of exceptionally talented people and diverse individuals. From making new hires feel welcome, to supporting people to develop and achieve their full potential within an engaging work environment.
At KPMG, every day is a new challenge to grow further on a personal and professional level. I am so proud to be part of a truly global network that connects us individually, while achieving an enjoyable and fulfilling career.
What is your favourite thing about working at KPMG?
I love KPMG’s positive culture and the focus on our values, combined with flexibility, trust and effective career progression. This is what makes KPMG the employer of choice!
What has the pandemic taught you – personally and professionally?
“Love, Honesty & Gratitude!” – This pandemic taught me to focus more on improving my mindset, reflect, act and change. I realised how blessed I am and started valuing close relations with others much more, particularly with those who sharing, and caring is reciprocated.
What is your KPMG story?
My KPMG story started in my home country, Libya, back in 2014. At that time, the Libya office was still being set up, which was a shared project between KPMG Malta and KPMG Tunisia. So, I was in close contact with the Malta team from the start. In fact, my initial interview was conducted by Marco Vassallo who was then KPMG Malta’s ICT Director and is now a partner and responsible of ICT Ops in Malta. I still remember my interview vividly - it was one of the most interesting interviews I ever sat for!
Unfortunately, after days, nights and long hours working hard on setting up the Libya office, the political situation in Libya became quite serious and the office was closed down, just before the inauguration.
My KPMG story did not end there. A couple of years later, I was asked to join the KPMG Malta team and in February 2017, my journey kicked off again. Moving from Libya to Malta with my family was definitely not an easy challenge but the warm welcome I received at the Malta office made it all worth it. It’s a great environment to work in as voicing one’s opinion is highly encouraged and thus, this gives us space for experimenting and innovation.
What is your favourite thing about working at KPMG?
We work as one team - when a team member encounters a problem, the others are always ready and willing to help. We work hard together but also make sure to find the time to organise fun activities and meet outside work. Most importantly, we’re also there for each other through difficult times, especially when it comes to personal family issues. I am particularly thankful for all the support I received this past year during the pandemic.
What has the pandemic taught you - personally and professionally?
Surely, to appreciate quality time with family and spend as much time as possible with loved ones. It has also opened up my eyes to always have a “plan b” as things might not always go as expected unfortunately.
