John is a Partner at KPMG in the Channel Islands and is Head of Tax for the KPMG Islands Group, a sub-region of KPMG EMA, which includes a number of jurisdictions such as the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, Gibraltar, Malta, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, BVI and other Caribbean Islands.

He has over twenty years' experience at Partner level in Jersey and international taxation, and specialises in all aspects of offshore tax matters. John deals with a number of the larger financial and non-financial institutions in the Islands. He advises them on local and tax risks, assists them on structuring their affairs and comments on the regulatory and taxation position of moving to and from the Islands. 

 

John has been at the heart of the Jersey tax community for over twenty years and has sat on numerous working groups, including the Edwards' Review Working Party (fiscal crime division), the 1997 Fiscal review Working Party, the Jersey OECD Task Force, chaired the Jersey EU Tax Package Working Group and the Island's EU Savings Tax Directive group, been the Vice-Chairman of Jersey Market Access Group, a member of the International Pension Group and was an active member of the Policy and Resources Committee Working Group which negotiated Jersey's position on the EU Code of Conduct on Business Taxation, which gave rise to the zero-ten tax regime.

 

John currently sits on the Fiscal Strategy Group, which is a standing committee of Jersey Finance Limited, tasked with considering future tax policy matters and has assisted Government on matters such as the intergovernmental agreements to implement FATCA and 'UK FATCA' and also the Common Reporting Standard.
