Today, the Danish government adopted the bill to e.g. change the requirements for a Danish bank account. The bill should increase flexibility for permits according to the Fast track scheme, extension of permits granted under the short term track and to update the job change rules.

Exemption to the bank account requirement for some schemes

A Danish bank account will not be a condition for the following schemes:

  • Researcher scheme
  • The Pay limit track based on the Fast track scheme
  • Research track based on the Fast track scheme
  • Short-term track based on the Fast track scheme
  • Education track based on the Fast track scheme.

For other work-related schemes, the bank account requirement will continue to apply. However, the deadline for setting up a bank account is changed to be from 90 days to 180 days.

Extension of the short-term track during a stay in Denmark

By the changes, it will be possible to extend a stay under the short-term track based on the Fast track scheme. The extension application must be submitted before the expiry date of the current permit and the total stay in Denmark must not exceed the maximum allowed 90 days per year.

Job change rule

In addition to the above, the job change rules will allow employee to continue to work when applying for another work permit scheme than the current one.

Additionally, the Danish government adopted a bill last week regarding accompanying spouses for Danish nationals returning to Denmark

Danish nationals who have worked and resided abroad and then returned to Denmark can apply for family reunification to bring their non-EU spouses with them to Denmark on the same terms and conditions as non-EU nationals who move to Denmark on a work permit and bring their non-EU spouses as accompanying family members. This scheme will make it easier for Danish nationals to bring non-EU national spouses to Denmark after having lived abroad.

The changes will come into force on 1 July 2024.
