With the introduction of the new CSRD rules, which are highly data-driven, companies are now required to collect more data than ever before. As this data also needs to be reported, there is an increased focus on data quality. While the rules initially mandate limited assurance audits of the data, the expectation is that this will evolve into a higher level of assurance over time. This shift will place additional demands on companies' data collection and validation processes. Similar to financial data, internal controls will need to be implemented for ESG data.
