Mattias Schmelzer appointed as new spokesperson for the Executive Board of KPMG in Germany

• Current Chief Markets Officer to succeed Klaus Becker as of 1 October 2023
• Klaus Becker moves into international leadership role at KPMG as Chairman of EMA Region

At its meeting yesterday, the Supervisory Board of KPMG AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft appointed Mattias Schmelzer as the new Spokesman of the Executive Board of KPMG in Germany with effect from the start of the new financial year on 1 October 2023. The current Chief Markets Officer succeeds Klaus Becker, who will take over as Chairman of KPMG International's EMA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa) on 1 October 2023 after twelve years at the helm of the company.

The Supervisory Board involved KPMG's partnership in Germany in the process launched last year to select the new spokesperson for the Executive Board. The partners voted overwhelmingly in favour of Mattias Schmelzer as the candidate to succeed him, who had previously been nominated by a committee with equal numbers of supervisory board members and partnership representatives.

Klaus Becker has served as KPMG's spokesperson for the Executive Board in Germany since 1 October 2011. He had not sought a further term of office after his current term expires on 30 September 2023 and had decided to move on to new responsibilities. In his future role as Chairman of the EMA Region, he will represent the interests of the EMA countries at the global level and promote the expansion of cooperation within the EMA Region. He will continue to serve as a member of KPMG International's Global Board and Global Executive Committee.

Mattias Schmelzer (46) has been a member of the Executive Board of KPMG in Germany since 2018 and, as Chief Markets Officer, is responsible for the growth topics of digital transformation and ESG, among others. Since 2021, he has also been responsible for the Corporates segment (corporate groups and capital market-oriented companies) as Divisional Board Member and for the North Hamburg region as Regional Board Member since 2014. The auditor and business graduate has worked for KPMG since 2003 and has extensive experience in auditing and advising large, listed groups and medium-sized family businesses in various sectors.
