Banks around the world are under increasing pressure to make their operating models more efficient, more digital and more resilient. The focus is not just on reducing costs in the short term, but on a strategic transformation - with the aim of remaining competitive in the long term.
The study "Banking transformation: The new agenda" shows how banks can successfully shape this change - based on a global survey of 228 financial sector executives and supplemented by practical experience from KPMG experts in various markets.
Many banks are not yet achieving their transformation goals

The reasons for this include a lack of strategic objectives, operational silos and too little connection between the use of technology and actual value creation.

Download report nowThe five key findings of the study:
- A clear target image as a starting point: Successful banks start with the question of who they want to serve in the future - with which services, via which channels, in which setup.
- Combine transformation and cost targets: Efficiency is created when cost and change targets are considered and managed together.
- Use value levers correctly: Technology alone is not enough - it must be part of a holistic transformation approach.
- Anchoring responsibility clearly: Success requires clear responsibilities, control and visible implementation across all areas.
- Integrate experience in a targeted manner: External expertise - for example in the use of generative AI - can increase speed, safety and quality.
