Digital excellence in the manufacturing industry

Industrial manufacturing companies are among the pioneers of digital transformation. They are making targeted investments in new technologies to increase efficiency, quality and sustainability. The KPMG Global Tech Report shows how the industry is achieving digital maturity - and where there is still a need for action.

Based on feedback from 368 industrial manufacturing executives worldwide, the report clearly shows:

• Technological maturity with vision: Manufacturing companies lead the way in seven out of nine technology categories. 76 per cent of the companies surveyed say that their employees are ready to use the latest technologies - more than in any other sector surveyed.
• AI pays off - with room for improvement: Industrial manufacturing is advancing to become one of the three sectors with the greatest momentum and maturity in the field of artificial intelligence. Investments in AI are paying off for a considerable proportion of industrial companies: 34 per cent are already achieving a return on investment through various AI applications. At the same time, differences in maturity - for example in the supply chain, purchasing and finance function - are slowing down widespread progress.
• Solid data basis - but still room for improvement: The industry is above the cross-sector average in terms of data maturity. Nevertheless, the standard remains high: many organisations continue to strive for improvement, particularly with regard to system integration and analytical capability.

• Optimise data strategies to strengthen system integration and analysis capabilities.
• Provide employees with targeted training.
• Make cyber security a strategic priority.
