On April 1, 2025, the Platform on Sustainable Finance published a report containing a series of evidence-based recommendations for adapting the climate and environmental aspects of taxonomy reporting and improving its effectiveness. In contrast to the previously published recommendations on overarching topics of the EU taxonomy (we reported in Express Accounting News 09/2025), the new report concerns specific recommendations relating to individual activities and technical assessment criteria.

The report proposes four areas for change in taxonomy reporting:

  1. Review of the criteria used so far, e.g. improving the applicability of the general criteria for the environmental objective “adaptation to climate change”, improving consistency by harmonizing the titles and descriptions of activities and adapting selected criteria for the significant contribution and DNSH (criteria for avoiding significant harm to other environmental objectives) of activities,
  2. Introduction of new activities, e.g. refineries, mining, market-oriented research, development and innovation and digital solutions and services,
  3. Reporting on the status of development of criteria for other activities, e.g. production of emergency aircraft, maintenance of tunnels and bridges, production of tires, telecommunication networks and energy efficiency equipment in industry,
  4. Further recommendations on the environmental goal “Adaptation to climate change”.
