KPMG ESG Talk - Addressing challenges in implementing ISSB™ Standards
The International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) has unveiled its inaugural standards, IFRS S1 and IFRS S2, on 26 June 2023. These standards signify a pivotal milestone in the era of sustainability-related disclosures in global capital markets – with an objective to ensure the integration of sustainability-related details alongside financial statements within the same reporting package. These standards are designed to align with diverse accounting requirements and are rooted in the fundamental concept of the widely embraced IFRS Accounting Standards, which are mandated in over 140 jurisdictions. Consequently, the ISSB Standards hold universal applicability, providing a consistent global foundation.
IFRS S1 encompasses disclosure requirements that enable companies to communicate with investors about the risks and opportunities they encounter in relation to sustainability over short, medium, and long-term durations. Meanwhile, IFRS S2 specifies particular disclosures pertaining to climate change and is designed to complement IFRS S1. Both standards also incorporate the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).
Despite the standards' intended purpose of bolstering trust and confidence in companies’ sustainability disclosures to aid investors in making informed investment decisions, industry players still grapple with a comprehensive understanding of its requirements.
In view of this, we are delighted to extend an invitation for you to join us in the KPMG ESG Talk titled "Addressing challenges in implementing ISSB™ Standards", exclusive for our clients to gain insights and exchange information on how the standards will affect the industries. This event has been curated to enlighten participants on the standards’ implementation criteria while showcasing a case study to illustrate its application.
