Alexander Lacher (Ph.D., MBA) leads KPMG Switzerland’s Insurance Advisory. With his remarkable industry track record, he understands KPMG's insurance clients. He advises Swiss and Liechtenstein insurers, reinsurers, captives, health & accident insurers, as well as insurance brokers, MGAs and insurtechs. Alexander joined KPMG as a Partner in 2023.
Prior to joining KPMG, Alexander was General Counsel and member of the management (C-level and Board) of a large Swiss retail insurance group (FINMA-regulated). He also served as the CEO of their life insurer in Liechtenstein (FMA-regulated). Earlier professional roles included consulting (Big 4), investment management (with a focus on insurance-related asset classes such as Insurance-linked securities), health and accident insurance (BAG-regulated) and corporate insurance (multi-national programs with a focus on Alternative Risk Transfer). Alexander also served the public as a former working group member “Legal & Compliance” of the Swiss Insurance Association and as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Supervisory Board of a cantonal bank.
Alexander is a co-author of the Basel commentaries on the Swiss insurance supervision act (Articles 31, 62 and 63) as well as on the Swiss health insurance supervision act (Articles 9 and 10). Moreover, he is a guest lecturer for legal & compliance and labor law at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (“ZHAW”) as well as at the University of Applied Sciences for Business Administration Zurich (“HWZ”).
Alexander is a member of the international academic honor society Beta, Gamma, Sigma. Alexander was personally awarded “Swiss General Counsel of the Year (Insurance)” (2020 and 2023) and received the team award “In-house Legal Team of the Year Insurance” (2022). He is also a member of the "Legal 500 GC Powerlist: Switzerland (2023)".
