Sergio Avalos is the Head of Tax Technology and Transformation at KPMG, supporting clients across Switzerland and the UK. With a background as an engineer, data scientist and tax technologist, he combines technical and tax expertise to help multinational organizations navigate an increasingly complex tax landscape.
Prior to joining KPMG, Sergio held leadership roles in tax technology and transformation at other leading professional services firms, where he supported global clients through large-scale ERP and Finance Transformation programs. He has led tax workstreams across all major tax types, delivering end-to-end solutions for tax determination, e-Invoicing, tax reporting and compliance automation in over 150 countries.
Sergio’s experience convers the implementation of tax technology across a wide range of enterprise platforms, including ERP, EPM, CRM, procurement and e-commerce systems as well as bespoke solutions. He has a strong track record of integrating tax technology into core business processes to drive efficiency, accuracy and compliance at scale.
In addition to his tax technology expertise, Sergio works extensively across the data ecosystem, using advanced data science and analytics platforms, programming languages, cloud data solutions, automation tools and business intelligence technologies. He is passionate about using data and emerging technologies to transform tax functions.
Most recently, Sergio has been at the forefront of embedding Generative AI and Agentic AI into tax operations, redefining what is possible for tax professionals and enabling organizations to unlock value and innovation.
