      Canada announced on April 3, 2025 that new 25% tariffs on automobiles imported from the United States that are not compliant with the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA). This countermeasure is intended to address the United States’ 25% tariffs on all automobiles imported into the United States, which was confirmed in the U.S. tariff announcement of April 2, 2025. The United States confirmed that these 25% tariffs, which was first announced earlier in March 2025, is effective April 3, 2025. In addition, the United States announced on April 2, 2025 that it would introduce tariffs on goods from most countries and territories at a “10% tariff baseline” rate and higher “reciprocal tariff rates” that would apply on goods from specific countries and territories.
