Hudson Lopez is a Partner in the Insurance Practice at KPMG in Canada and is based in Toronto. Hudson has international experience having worked with KPMG in New Zealand and in the Cayman Islands. He has close to 20 years’ experience in the audit of financial services. Additionally, Hudson has a strong background serving clients reporting under several basis of accounting, including IFRS, US GAAP and Canadian GAAP for both private enterprises and not-for-profit organizations.
Hudson is currently focused in providing accounting advisory services to insurers preparing to implement the new insurance accounting standard – IFRS 17. He is assisting clients in the development of their IFRS 17 change projects, including presenting education sessions, facilitating workshops, and developing their roadmap to implementation. Hudson is also involved in the audits of domestic and multi-national P&C and Life insurers and reinsurers, leading a team in planning, executing the audit strategy, and reporting to those charged with governance.
Hudson is currently involved in a number of speaking engagements on IFRS 17 and its impacts on clients and is often asked to contribute at client and industry events. Examples include: KPMG’s Annual Insurance Conference, Canadian Insurance Financial Forum, IBC Symposium, Canadian Institute of Actuaries Seminar, Acumen and the CIBC Mellon Luncheon Series, and Canadian Insurance Accountants Association.
Hudson is involved with the OSFI Insurance Auditors Advisory and CLHIA IFRS Advisory Committees.
