Jas is a Partner in KPMG in Canada’s Financial Services Risk Strategy and Compliance practice. She has a diverse background delivering risk consulting services in the financial industry and frequently assists clients execute large scale enterprise initiatives that focus on enterprise / operational risk management, risk assessment convergence, controls assurance, target operating models, data transformation, and executive reporting, while simultaneously minimizing risk and organizational impacts throughout the transformation. Additionally, Jas played an integral role in developing KPMG Canada’s Culture Risk and Risk Transformation Frameworks.
Engagement Experience
- Led a firm wide mandate across the first and second line functions transforming the model for a high-risk regulatory controls program. Redesigned key aspects of the controls program including rating methodology, controls rationalization, assessment tools and templates, process and control taxonomies, digital reporting.
- Led the firm-wide enterprise wide risk management transformation to align business objectives with risk management strategies, including training provided to executives, standardization of process, control and risk taxonomies, development of methodologies and tools for management to monitor risk profile, and providing quarterly reports to the Board.
- Responsible for advising management on the business process and control design for a new product roll out in accordance with regulatory requirements to obtain CRO credit approval of $1.5BN. Product development initiative included operational strategy, operational risk, due diligence, risk appetite statement, process, risk, controls as well as governance and reporting. Training was provided to the 1st line of defense on risk ownership, controls execution, remediation activities, and reporting.
- Led the operational risk program design which included designing the client’s operational risk target operating model, development of risk and control self assessments, controls assurance framework, risk taxonomy, reporting and risk rating methodology.
- Conducted an assessment of all aspects of the 2nd line of defense function, including assessment of remedial efforts against OSFI findings, reporting structure, operational risk methodology, use of technology, reporting, skills assessment as well as Executive Management and Board communications.
- Oversaw the development of the Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR) internal audit strategy and implementation, this included assessment of the CCAR requirements and controls as well as remediation efforts.
- Oversaw the internal audit review of the operational resilience framework, related processes and controls, including identification of deficiencies and reporting to the executive management.
