With over 15 years of experience, Derek is a partner in KPMG in Canada’s GTA Asset Management Tax practice and the National Leader of Alternative Investments Tax.

Derek brings extensive experience in international tax planning, fund structuring, tax strategy, reporting, and investment transactions, as well as a focus on structuring complex tax transactions and advising on cross-border issues for multi-national corporations. In previous roles, Derek has overseen Canadian and international tax planning and reporting, developed innovative fund and investment structures, and was responsible for investment transaction support. 

Derek is well-versed in the tax landscape and brings a high level of experience in tax-related matters including due diligence, transaction negotiation and execution, asset management, fund formation and advisory, tax leakage optimization, and reporting. He has worked on fund structuring for domestic and international investments, cross-border financing, entity minimization, foreign acquisitions and divestitures, and more. Derek has worked with clients in a variety of industries, including but not limited to, private equity, asset management, investment management, global engineering, and real estate.
