Professional and Industry Experience

Thomas has worked with a broad range of global and regional insurance and reinsurance clients, operating in the non-life and life sectors, and his previous experience includes:

• Providing supporting leadership roles on the group audits of SEC registrants and large non-public companies operating in various jurisdictions, including the US, UK (including Lloyd’s), Singapore, and Germany.
• Leading the group audits and reviews of financial statements prepared under UK GAAP and IFRS accounting principles for commercial insurance companies and their associated global branches.
• Extensive experience with financial reporting and accounting issues related to complex insurance arrangements, business combinations and consolidation.
• Significant experience with SEC reporting, SOX, US GAAP, IFRS, and UK GAAP.

 

Recent Engagement Experience

• Led the successful delivery of a refreshed delivery model for insurance audits in KPMG UK, including the development and implementation of new automated audit tools, more effective staff utilization, and heightened delivery of our audit quality strategy.
• Successfully implemented and executed a new approach to an audit strategy which lead to a reduction in hours of 25%, whilst improving the quality of the audit product.
• Helped a client successfully understand and resolve the significant control deficiencies identified in their control framework, through providing independent challenge to proposed mitigation activities to ensure appropriate expectations were set and achieved.
• Led the audit of a multi-territorial audit across Europe, including complex inter—office arrangements, to enable a seamless delivery of the audit for the group entity.
• Led the audit delivery of a first year IFRS17 implementation for a general insurer, including the audit of the opening balance sheet and transitional adjustments. This included providing introductory training to the entity to ensure a common understanding of the financial reporting requirements; and, a clear audit plan to successfully deliver the audit efficiently in a complex accounting area.
