Working as an auditor in FS Audit at KPMG has been a truly valuable learning experience. I chose this department because the insurance sector is complex and constantly evolving, which makes the work both challenging and interesting. There is always something new to learn, whether it’s about technical standards, business processes, or industry developments.
Recently, I had the opportunity to support a client through two major transformations: the implementation of IFRS 17, which reshaped their insurance accounting framework, and the rollout of ESG reporting practices, aligning their operations with emerging sustainability standards. These projects deepened my understanding of regulatory change and taught me how important teamwork and flexibility are to make a real impact.
From the start, I was given responsibility and involved in different parts of the audit. In my first year, I even had the chance to lead client meetings such as walkthroughs and planning discussions while taking ownership of my assigned tasks. This experience helped me grow quickly in my role, and I have also started guiding colleagues and coordinating specific workstreams.
Eva Kocks, Manager Audit
What I value most is the combination of client interaction, task ownership, and early leadership experience, which is not something every firm offers from the very beginning.
Another important aspect is the working atmosphere within the department. We have a strong team dynamic and get along very well, which creates a positive and supportive environment. Beyond the day-to-day collaboration, we regularly organize audit drinks, team-building activities, and celebrations after major engagements. Highlights like our Christmas party and closing dinners after busy audit periods give us a chance to connect, reflect, and appreciate the results of our hard work.
My managers also play an important role in creating this environment. They are approachable, supportive, and genuinely motivated, which makes it easy to learn and grow. They regularly take time to check in, not only on progress but also on how we are doing personally. Whether it is a quick Teams call or a coffee chat, they are always open to questions. I have also been encouraged to take ownership of my work and guide junior colleagues, knowing that support is always available when needed.
For anyone starting their career, this role offers a great balance. You are challenged, supported, and continuously learning while working with a team that is truly great to be part of.
