Ashley Smith

Ashley is the head of Governance Risk and Compliance Services for KPMG South Africa. He started his career in 1993 in the Pretoria office as an articled clerk and completed his training contract in 1995. In 2000 Ashley was appointed a partner and has had several roles in the firm including leading the ERM team and the Sarbanes Oxley team in South Africa. He has delivered a number of large multi-national ERM and Sarbanes Oxley implementation projects. Ashley transferred to the Internal Audit business unit in 2002 where he is responsible for delivering risk-based, operational and financial compliance audits. Ashley is the lead partner on a number of key KPMG internal audit accounts, ensuring best practise and global leading practice is delivered by the internal audit teams Ashley currently leads the Internal Audit network of KPMG for Europe, Middle East and Africa managing the overall coordination of services across the region. He is also member of KPMG’s Global Internal Audit Steering Group. Ashley has more than 29 years’ experience in various industries and services.
