Pumla finished her articles at Deloitte in 1999. Pumla was then employed at the Financial Services Board as a Senior Forensic Investigator. In her 9 and a half years at the Financial Services Board, Pumla was involved and led numerous forensic investigations in the financial services industry relating to contraventions of the then Financial Markets and Stock Exchanges Control Acts , Pension Funds Act, Collective Investment Schemes Act, Long term and Short term Insurance Act and the Securities Services Act dealing with Insider Trading, Prohibited Trading Practices and False Reporting in the securities of companies listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. She then joined Standard Bank of South Africa as the Operational Risk Manager for Retail Banking.
Pumla has 21 years of experience in Audit, Forensic,Operational and Fraud Risk Management. Pumla joined KPMG Forensics as a Senior Manager responsible for Fraud Risk Management.
Pumla also assists external audit teams with the requirement of ISA 240 “The Auditor’s responsibility to consider fraud and error in the audit”. This includes compiling fraud risk matrixes on fraudulent financial reporting and misappropriation of assets, conducted consultations with management and performed fraud risk management strategy assessments.
Pumla has presented in various forums including inter alia Audit Committees, Risk Management Committees, Fraud Forums/Working Groups, Office of the Premier of KZN and SAICA conferences, Office of the Premier Gauteng etc. on fraud risk management and business ethics.
