Currently, Gary Plotkin is a Principal at KPMG and a member of the IT Advisory services practice for Financial Services across the US. Prior to joining KPMG, Gary was most recently the CIO for a Specialty insurance carrier and prior to that the CIO for a Fortune 100 Multi-Line carrier. Before his time in the insurance industry, Gary ran operations for a Buy-Side Order Management software provider. Prior to that Gary was a Partner in Accenture’s Global Financial Services Technology practice, with a focus on Insurance and Capital Markets.
Business and IT Transformation
Led the transition of a $3B generalist carrier to a $1B Specialty carrier. Developed and executed the transition services and associated technology and data changes. Supported multiple acquisitions and divestiture along with clear IT accountability and execution.
Transformed a 400+ person IT organization through the development and implementation of an organization with clear accountability, governance, development plans and a common methodology. Drove a 4-year, $100M technology roadmap to support business strategy and demand. Reduced IT spend by 10% a year through system rationalization, sourcing and quality improvements
For a Fortune 100 Financial Services Company, centralized all Production Support and Service Management functions into the CTO organization and developing common processes (Change, Release, Configuration, etc.) leveraging the ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) standards. Achieved a sustainable 20% decrease in support costs with improved flexibility and reuse across all business segments
Developed and led the IT transformation for a $10B P&C Carrier. As the Chief Technology Officer and subsequently the Chief Information Officer, partnered with the business on a multi-year change plan that introduced strategic sourcing, Segment focused IT delivery and meaningful metrics and clear impacts
Created an Enterprise Architecture community, through the centralization of ~75 application architects. Spent ~$50mm across 2 years to build out Foundation Architecture components that provide core capabilities leveraging an SOA (reuse and standards) framework. Developed associated governance to enforce usage and benefited from a minimum 10% reduction in maintenance spend where these foundations have been applied.
