Nguyen Mai Phuong

Phuong Nguyen is a lawyer with over 25 years of experience in banking, financial, corporate, commercial and global trading matters. She used to be a litigation lawyer in the past (as representative/lawyer appointed by clients in the legal proceeding at courts and arbitration) and she is now leading the team in Hanoi in arbitration matters. Phuong has been providing advice on all aspects of banking and finance, corporate, real estate, investments and business operations in Vietnam for local, foreign and multinational corporations and credit institutions. This includes all types of matters, projects and transactions such as onshore and offshore bilateral lending and borrowing or syndication, equity and securities private placement, project finances, market entry, businesses identification, setting-up and development, infrastructure projects, for which she provides guidance on legal issues, investment structures, financing structures, tax considerations and foreign exchange issues.

In 2014, IFLR1000 listed Phuong Nguyen as a leading Banking & Finance lawyer. She has been nominated as a leading Financial and Corporate lawyer by IFLR1000 (2011-2013). According to Chambers Global 2011, “Mai Phuong Nguyen is a talented finance lawyer and is carving herself a strong reputation in the market”. As described by Asialaw 2010, “Mai Phuong Nguyen provides immense expertise in financial matters”. She is also a lawyer highly acknowledged by the Asia Pacific Legal 500. Phuong Nguyen was also recognised as one of 100 best lawyers in Vietnam in 2020, 2021 and ranked as recommended lawyer for many years.

Phuong also has been providing her lectures to Vietnamese lawyers who are subject to compulsory training courses as required under Vietnam law and which are organised by Vietnam Bar Federation. The topics of her lectures are varied from banking and finance and general corporate matters to MA, global trading, IP and other related matters. She also has been invited to be presenter to lawyers, counsels and other persons who are working in different industries at workshops, conferences and seminars on foreign investment, banking and finance, security and enforceability, MA and global trading in Vietnam and offshore.

Before joining KPMG Vietnam in 2022, Phuong was with Leadco Law Firm (Vietnamese law firm) for 5 years, InvestPro (Vietnamese law firm) for 5 years, Mayer Brown JSM (Vietnam) for nearly 10 years, and with ZICOlaw (Vietnam) Limited for nearly 8 years.
