The European Commission (EC) today announced the adoption of a 14th package of sanctions against Russia focused on strengthening enforcement and anti-circumvention measures.
According to today’s EC release, the new package also includes:
- New energy-related measures targeting liquified natural gas (LNG)
- Measures targeting vessels that support Russia's war
- 116 additional designations, including 69 individuals and 47 entities
- Ban for EU banks outside Russia to use the financial messaging system SPFS (Russian equivalent of SWIFT) and ban on transactions with banks and crypto assets providers that facilitate transactions supporting Russia's defense-industrial base
- Restrictions on nine additional dual-use and advanced technology items (e.g., microwave and aerial amplifiers, flight data recorders, and all-terrain vehicles) and extension of export bans on certain types of industrial chemicals, plastics, vehicle parts, and machinery goods
- Stricter restrictions for the export of dual-use and advanced technology items to 61 entities that are directly or indirectly associated with Russia's military complex
