Canada: Tax measures in 2024 provincial budgets (Alberta, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island)

Proposed tax changes

The provincial budgets for Alberta, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island were released on 29 February 2024. While none of the budgets include new changes to the corporate tax rates, there are some proposed tax changes (see links below for more information).

  • Alberta: The budget proposes a new CA$200 annual tax on electric vehicles and a one-time refundable tax credit for certain employed individuals who move to Alberta.   • Nova Scotia: The budget introduces indexing to the provincial individual income tax system for the 2025 and subsequent tax years. There are no changes to the individual income tax rates. Read a February 2024 report [PDF 191 KB] prepared by the KPMG member firm in Canada
  • Prince Edward Island: The budget includes proposals to change the personal income tax bracket thresholds and corresponding tax rates, and to increase the basic individual income tax exemption to $14,250 (from $13,500) for 2025.
